Rice Fergus Miller Office and Studio

Rice Fergus Miller completely renovated the former Sears Automotive Center, a 1948 building vacant for 24 years, for its office and studio. On an urban infill site, the 30,000 square foot building conceived as a laboratory for innovative design and experimentation, combines energy-effiency and water use features with the recycling of an abandoned downtown building shell. This adaptive reuse project has aided in the revitalization of a blighted downtown core and helps bring new life into the area by offering its space during after-work hours for community events and celebrations. The LEED® Platinum 92-point building has an EUI of 18.2, which contributes to distinguishing it as the highest scoring commercial renovation in the United States. This extreme sustainability was achieved at $105 a square foot.
