Virginia Mason opens new med center on Bainbridge

Virginia Mason Health System had outgrown its Bainbridge Island medical facility on Winslow Way.

Now the health system has a new 30,000-square-foot medical center at 1344 Wintergreen Lane N.E., which it completed in 2018.

Visconsi Cos. developed the project. Wenslau Architects and C2K Architects did architectural work on the core and shell for the new building.

Rice Fergus Miller provided architecture, medical planning and interior design for tenant improvements, the firm said in a press release.

The center brings enhanced services to Kitsap County, including primary care, imaging and lab, plus spaces for dermatology, physical therapy, nutrition counseling and neurosurgery consultation, RFM said in a press release.

It said the building interiors were designed using Virginia Mason’s ā€œ3Pā€ process for lean design and operations. As part of 3P (production, preparation, process), staff walked through mock-ups for each department and made comments. Changes were then integrated into the design.

The interior was designed to be comforting for patients. The 31 exam rooms each have one entrance for staff and one for patients ā€” to keep staff operations removed from the patient experience, RFM said.

Abundant natural light and views of nature add to the inviting atmosphere, the firm said.

Robertson & Olson was the contractor for the building and the tenant improvements.

The tenant improvement team included Wood Harbinger, mechanical and electrical engineer; Fischer Bouma Partnership, landscape architect; and OAC Services, owner’s representative.
