City of Seattle Fire Station 35

This energy-efficient neighborhood station celebrates the urban transition between residential and commercial areas on a very tight 100ft by 100ft site. Built to the property line on two sides and within 5′ on the third, no square inch of the site went underutilized. The use of materials like brick and metal honor its locale and the integration of public art is both functional and beautiful. The compact and operationally efficient design provides residential, administrative, and decontamination and support spaces. The kitchen, outdoor deck, and exercise facilities were designed to raise the fire fighters quality of life while on duty.
