Olympic Medical Center Starting Medical Office Building in August

Construction will start in early August on a 42,000-square-foot medical office building at 907 Georgiana St. on Olympic Medical Center’s campus in Port Angeles.

Architect Rice Fergus Miller designed the two-story building, which is expected to open in fall 2016. Kirtley-Cole Associates is the contractor.

In a press release, the architect said the new building will have clinics that are now housed in four buildings on campus, including some specialty services now offered by OMC in Port Angeles, primary care and a walk-in clinic.

Olympic Medical Center is the business name for Clallam County Public Hospital District No. 2, which provides health care for over 70,000 county residents. Inpatient services are offered at the 80-bed acute-care facility in Port Angeles and outpatient services are at locations in Port Angeles and Sequim.

Eric Lewis, OMC’s chief executive officer, said the center has evolved from a traditional hospital into a provider of primary care and specialty outpatient services.

“In accommodating the growth in outpatient services and physician clinics in Port Angeles, we’ve run out of space,” he said. “This new medical office building is key to our future.”

In the new building, doctor’s offices, exam rooms, waiting areas and ancillary spaces are divided into six “neighborhoods” differentiated by color schemes of gold, blue and brown, and artistic themes based on vistas of mountains, woodlands and water.

Rice Fergus Miller said exterior glass walls will bring daylight in, while wood facing on a central tower will give a feeling of warmth. The gray exterior will have red accents to link it visually with the existing hospital, which was built in 1951.

The project team also includes PacLand, civil engineer and landscape architect; TBS Engineering, mechanical engineer; Wood Harbinger, electrical engineer; and PCS Structural Solutions, structural engineer.
